The market
India is the clearest case anywhere of a single domestic rail taking the market. UPI now carries the overwhelming majority of retail digital payment volume, and ticket sizes keep compressing as it absorbs low-value, high-frequency spend. Cards are a rounding error for most consumer flows.
What we would tell you
If your checkout does not lead with UPI, you are not really live in India. Enforcement action can freeze individual channels without warning, so redundancy across providers on the same method is not optional.

Moving value out
Materially constrained
Collecting here is not the hard part. This rating describes repatriation.
Only RBI-authorised entities may facilitate cross-border money movement, and flows sit under FEMA. Resident outward remittance runs through the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, capped at USD 250,000 per financial year. Structure matters more here than anywhere else in the region.
Digital assets
Digital-asset settlement is not a practical route for regulated merchant flows. Treat rupee settlement through authorised channels as the only path.
